Calling all Systems Companies: Help keep The Systems Apprenticeship going
Skills for Security have brought to light an important industry matter concerning the Systems Apprenticeship and its viability to continue.
The Sector Skills body are alerting the Security Systems sector that the industry currently risks losing the Security Systems Apprenticeship unless learner numbers for the qualification increase. City and Guilds have deemed the NVQ qualification no longer financially viable for them to review, redevelop and renew.
Skills for Security have managed to obtain an extension to the existing qualification for a further 3 years, however to renew the qualification after this date, there needs to be a “significant increase in learner numbers” states Skills for Security.
If the apprenticeship ceases to exist, the Security Systems Sector will no longer have a sector specific apprenticeship framework, which currently offers apprenticeship training in Intruder Alarm, CCTV or Fire Detection systems.
NSI CEO Jeff Little states “Apprenticeships are invaluable to the Security Industry. NSI is one of the key stakeholders of The Engineers of Tomorrow competition and would encourage any schemes which help young people progress and develop in the industry”.
You can help Skills for Security keep the Apprenticeship scheme going by providing your feedback to highlight how important it is to the sector.
